PPDIW is offering a unique product that we find very useful for studio and field shooting where color rendition is critical: the Digital Gray Card™ by Robin Meyers.

Here is what he says about it:

"Many gray cards (all of which are cardboard) are not well suited for digital photography; they have color casts in different lighting; they were designed for use with film; they are susceptible to damage, etc. For these and other reasons, we have developed the Digital Gray Card™.

This gray card has many advantages:

-        Spectrally uniform - the Card maintains its constant gray appearance in a wide variety of lighting conditions
-        Durable plastic material - Light weight, strong and can withstand professional and amateur use
-        Waterproof - a gray card you can use in wet weather and other wet environments
-        Washable - it can be cleaned with soap and cold water to remove fingerprints and grime (try that with a cardboard gray card!)
-        Repairable - small surface scratches can be repaired with a random orbit sander

NOTE: The Digital Gray Card™ is designed for digital photography only. It will not work with film light meters."

To use the gray card, simply put it in the scene you are shooting, in the light falling on your subject and shoot a picture with the card filling the frame. Then use your digital camera's "Custom White Balance" function to assign that picture as the white balance reference. That's all there is to it - perfect color balance every time! This works very well in any studio or table-top setup, and can work well in the field.
